Safaricom Ethiopia received its Mobile Money (MPESA) license today, may 11,2023

 

 

 

 

Safaricom Ethiopia, which has completed one year since it started providing services in Ethiopia, has announced that it has received the Mobile Money (MPESA) license.

The CEO of Safaricom Kenya, Mr. Peter Ndegwa, announced today, May 11, 2023, when he presented the company’s annual performance report to the stakeholders.

Safaricom Ethiopia, which has completed one year of service in Ethiopia, has announced that it has received a mobile money license from the National Bank of Ethiopia, which enables it to provide digital financial services.

 

 

The National Bank of Ethiopia gave the guaranteed Mobile Money (MPESA) license

 

 

On the other hand, the National Bank of Ethiopia has given its part of the announcement on the guaranteed license, the Bank has made it clear that it stands by supporting digital money technologies and fasten the replacement of cash transactions, Safaricom which happens to be the first foreign investor in Ethiopia to receive such kind of license, and within the very short launching date of this service it is believed that it would be a step ahead for the digital payment practice in Ethiopia.

 

The Bank finalized its announcement by wishing for fast growth of the Safaricom service product, MPESA mobile money.
