National Bank of Ethiopia NBE Announces USD 500 Million Special FX Auction.

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has announced a special foreign exchange auction amounting to USD 500 million, to be conducted on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as part of its monetary policy operations.

According to the central bank’s notice, the auction is open to eligible commercial banks, which are invited to submit their bids in accordance with the guidance provided by the NBE.
Bid submissions will be accepted electronically via [email protected] between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon on the auction date. The results of the auction are scheduled to be announced at 3:00 PM, with settlement to be completed by the end of the same day.
The foreign exchange auction represents one of the central bank’s policy instruments aimed at managing liquidity conditions and supporting stability in the foreign exchange market.
The National Bank of Ethiopia has recently increased the frequency and scale of its FX market interventions as part of broader efforts to address foreign currency supply constraints and enhance market transparency.
