Ethiopian Cargo Wins Africa’s Top Air Freight Award
Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services has been named Best Air Cargo Carrier in Africa at the 2026 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards, adding another international accolade to Ethiopian Airlines Group’s growing list of global recognitions this year.
The award, announced by Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday, marks the group’s third major international aviation recognition in 2026 and reinforces Addis Ababa’s position as one of Africa’s leading air cargo and logistics hubs.

Unlike awards determined solely by industry panels, the AFLAS Awards are based on votes cast by freight forwarders, logistics companies, cargo customers, and other supply chain professionals, making the recognition a reflection of industry confidence in the airline’s cargo operations.
Ethiopian Cargo operates one of Africa’s largest air freight networks, serving more than 145 international destinations via dedicated freighter aircraft and cargo carried on passenger aircraft. The business has become a strategic pillar of Ethiopian Airlines’ global expansion, connecting African exporters with markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.
The airline continues investing in infrastructure to meet rising international demand. Its Addis Ababa cargo terminal handles roughly 1.15 million tonnes annually, while a dedicated e-commerce facility processes 150,000 tonnes of retail and mail shipments.
This investment addresses the global shift toward e-commerce, which requires specialized logistics and faster delivery.
Ethiopian Cargo has also enhanced its transport for temperature-sensitive goods like pharmaceuticals and perishables, boosting its competitiveness on Africa-Asia trade routes.
The latest recognition continues a strong year for Ethiopian Airlines Group. Earlier in 2026, the carrier received the APEX Best Airline in Africa Award and the PAX Readership Award, further strengthening its international reputation across both passenger and cargo operations.
As African trade, manufacturing, and e-commerce continue to expand, Ethiopian Airlines is positioning its cargo division as a key gateway connecting the continent with global supply chains. The latest award reflects the airline’s growing influence in international logistics and its continued investment in expanding Africa’s air freight capacity.
