Zemen Bank Crosses 100 Billion Birr Asset Milestone.
Zemen Bank achieved a significant financial milestone in the first half of the current fiscal year, with its balance sheet surpassing 100 billion birr. This development indicates rapid growth across key metrics, including capital strength, deposits, and profitability.

According to the bank’s mid-year performance briefing, total assets climbed to 106 billion birr, while gross profit exceeded 5 billion birr during the six months. The results mark the strongest interim performance in the bank’s history and confirm its transition into the top tier of mid-sized private lenders.
Customer deposits rose to 80 billion birr, underscoring continued confidence in the bank amid tighter liquidity conditions across the sector. Paid-up capital also reached 14 billion birr, strengthening the bank’s capacity to expand lending and absorb risk as financial sector reforms deepen.
Zemen Bank’s management attributed the performance to disciplined balance-sheet growth, improved operational efficiency, and a focus on relationship-based banking. The lender has increasingly positioned itself as a financing partner for trade-oriented and growth-focused businesses, supported by digital service expansion and targeted corporate banking solutions.
The mid-year results follow a strong full-year performance in 2024/25, when the bank posted a sharp rise in net profit and earnings per share, reflecting a sustained improvement in profitability. To support foreign trade and investment financing, Zemen Bank has also secured an 85 million US dollar trade finance facility from Afreximbank and the Trade and Development Bank, enhancing its ability to provide hard-currency support to clients engaged in cross-border activity.
As Ethiopia’s banking sector adjusts to a more market-driven foreign exchange regime and heightened competition, Zemen Bank’s latest figures highlight the growing role of well-capitalised private banks in supporting trade, investment, and private-sector-led growth.
