Zemen Bank Tops ETB 10 Billion Profit as Deposits Near ETB 85 Billion

Zemen Bank reported a pre-audit gross profit of 10.2 billion Birr for the 2025/26 fiscal year, becoming one of Ethiopia’s most profitable private lenders as strong deposit growth, higher revenue, and expanding capital continued to strengthen its balance sheet.

According to a statement released following the bank’s annual management meeting, total assets rose to 116 billion Birr, while customer deposits increased 32 percent year-on-year to 85.4 billion Birr, reflecting continued growth in its core banking business.

The bank said its paid-up capital exceeded 14 billion Birr during the fiscal year, while shareholders’ equity reached 26 billion Birr, further strengthening its capital position as Ethiopian banks continue to expand to meet rising regulatory and business requirements.
Zemen Bank’s loan portfolio grew to 52.59 billion Birr, while foreign exchange earnings reached 698 million US dollars, underscoring the bank’s continued role in supporting Ethiopia’s export, remittance and foreign currency mobilization efforts.
Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Retail Banking Officer Asrat Tadesse said the bank’s financial performance compared favorably with industry benchmarks, attributing the results to the continued confidence of customers, employees and business partners.
Board Chairperson Enye Bimir also described the 2025/26 fiscal year as one of the strongest in the bank’s history.
The bank noted that the financial results remain unaudited and are subject to adjustment following completion of the external audit process.
Beyond its financial performance, Zemen Bank said it continued expanding financial literacy initiatives in schools and strengthened fraud awareness campaigns through SMS alerts, digital platforms, mass media and ATM displays. Its nationwide branch network reached 142 outlets during the fiscal year.
