Wegagen Bank Registers Additional 3.88 Million Shares With ECMA
The Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) has approved the registration of an additional 3,876,031 existing securities of Wegagen Bank S.C., further advancing the bank’s compliance with Ethiopia’s capital market regulations.
According to a public notice issued by the Authority, the Registration Statement was approved on July 24, 2026, pursuant to Article 75 of the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024.
The latest registration covers 3,876,031 existing securities held by shareholders, in addition to the 6,218,635 existing shares that had already been registered and listed with the Authority.

Under Ethiopia’s capital market framework, all securities offered or sold to the public must be registered with the ECMA. The registration process also requires issuers to formally register securities held by shareholders, enhancing transparency and strengthening the regulatory framework governing the country’s developing capital market.
ECMA emphasized that the registration is solely a regulatory requirement and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Wegagen Bank or as an offer, solicitation, or recommendation to buy or sell the bank’s securities.
The registration forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to prepare listed and prospective issuers for participation in Ethiopia’s emerging capital market. In recent months, ECMA has approved similar registrations for several commercial banks as the country’s securities market continues to expand.
