ECMA Registers More Than 14.7 Million Shares Across Three Financial Institutions
The Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) has registered a combined 14.72 million shares of Hibret Bank, Nib Insurance, and Meba Microfinance Institution as Ethiopia continues to bring securities issuers under its emerging capital-market regulatory framework.
The registrations cover more than 14.3 million existing shares already held by shareholders and 400,000 newly approved shares to be offered to existing shareholders. ECMA published the three registration notices as part of its ongoing implementation of the country’s securities market framework.

Hibret Bank accounts for the largest registration
Hibret Bank S.C. accounts for the largest portion of the registrations. ECMA approved the bank’s Registration Statement on August 6, 2026, registering 11,665,497 existing shares already held by shareholders.
Unlike the registrations of Meba Microfinance and Nib Insurance, the Hibret Bank notice provided does not include newly approved shares for an offer to existing shareholders.
Nib Insurance registers 2.82 million shares
ECMA approved Nib Insurance S.C.’s Registration Statement on July 28, 2026, registering a total of 2,818,305 shares.
The registered securities comprise 2,618,305 existing shares held by shareholders and 200,000 new shares approved to be offered to existing shareholders.
The registration was made pursuant to Article 75 of the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024.
Meba Microfinance joins the registered securities base
Meba Microfinance Institution S.C. was the latest of the three institutions to receive approval, with ECMA approving its Registration Statement on August 7, 2026.
The Authority registered 34,388 existing shares and 200,000 new shares approved for offer to existing shareholders, bringing the total registered securities covered by the notice to 234,388 shares.
The registration makes Meba Microfinance one of the latest financial institutions to have securities formally registered under Ethiopia’s capital-market regulatory framework. ECMA’s official website lists the Meba and Hibret Bank registration notices among its latest public notices.
Registration does not constitute an investment endorsement
Across the three notices, ECMA relied on the same legal framework governing the registration of securities offered or sold to the public. Article 75 of the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024 require securities offered or sold to the public to be registered with the Authority.
ECMA also emphasized that the notices are intended solely to inform the public about the registration of the securities. The registrations should not be interpreted as an endorsement of an offer, an offer to sell, or a solicitation to purchase the securities.
The three registrations come as Ethiopia’s capital-market infrastructure continues to expand, with ECMA registering securities from banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions while the Ethiopian Securities Exchange develops an organized platform for securities trading.
