Awash Insurance Registers 8 Million Existing Shares with ECMA
Awash Insurance S.C. has registered 8 million existing shares with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), marking another step in registering securities under Ethiopia’s emerging capital-market framework.
The Authority approved the company’s registration statement on September 30, 2026, under Article 75 of the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024.

The registration covers 8 million shares already held by existing shareholders. ECMA’s notice does not announce a new share issuance, confirm a public offering or state that the shares have been admitted to trading on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX).
Registration Is Not the Same as a Public Offering
The distinction matters as more companies enter the regulatory framework governing securities in Ethiopia.
Registration establishes that the securities covered by the notice have been registered with ECMA. However, it does not, by itself, mean that investors can purchase the shares through a public offer or trade them on an exchange.
ECMA also explicitly states that its notice is published solely to inform the public of the registration and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of an offer or as a solicitation to buy securities.
Implications for Ethiopia’s Capital Market
Awash Insurance’s registration adds another set of existing shares to the securities recorded under the country’s capital-market regulatory framework.
As Ethiopia develops its securities market, the registration of shares and the separate processes required for public offerings and exchange trading will be important distinctions for investors to understand.
Further details about any potential public offer, shareholder sale or exchange admission would require a separate announcement from the company, ECMA or the Ethiopian Securities Exchange.
